Tomorrow.

I leave.. tomorrow. Part of me is consumed with denial, a growing part is nervous, another part is excited for a new adventurous change... and all of me is sore from the Hood to Coast.

Also, I found out my address so now you can all send me lots of mail because mail is awesome. Packages though are a pain to receive, so letters my friends, letters are where it's at.

Anna Fraine shout-out!
Thanks for this:

"Waiting for the fish to bite
or waiting for wind to fly a kite
or waiting around for Friday night
or waiting, perhaps, for their Uncle Jake
or a pot to boil, or a Better Break
or a strong string of pearls, or a pair of pants
or a wig with curls, or Another Chance.
Everyone is just waiting.

NO!
That's not for you!

Somehow you'll escape
all that waiting and staying.
You'll find the bright places
where Boom Bands are playing."

Remix.

Many of you know my study abroad journey has recently changed dramatically. On Friday, I was reminded of the awesome power of God when I received a phone call informing me the Moreila program has been cancelled because of drug cartel violence in the region which prompted a Department of State travel warning: http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/pa/pa_4491.html

I was then given three options:
  1. Return to WOU and go to Morelia another term.
  2. Scramble and join the Argentina program leaving in just over a week.
  3. Hope to join with another program offering study abroad in Mexico.
Immediately Argentina jumped out at me because I had initially wanted to go there but Mexico was a more realistic endeavor. After much prayer, confusion and frantic planning I made my decision official. On August 31st, a week from today, I will be boarding a plane and flying to Houston, TX. There I will hop on a 12 hour overnight flight taking me to Buenos Aires. After that, it'll be a four hour bus ride to my final destination of Rosario, Argentina.

In Rosario I'm hoping to take courses on Human Rights in Argentina & Latin America, and Che Guevara along with my Spanish classes. I don't know my housing information as of now but I'll be sure to post it when I do.

While I still plan on continuing to go to Mexico and to one day make it to Morelia, now is not the time for me. Also, please keep this whole trip, as well as the unrest in Mexico in your prayers. I'm going to Rosario on a leap of faith - only God can make this happen.

Seventeen Days?

I leave for Mexico in just over two weeks. Insane! I've created this fancy little blog in hopes of keeping you all updated as to what's going on in my life and reassure you that I am still alive, and H1N1 free.

For those of you who don't know, I will be studying in Morelia, Mexico during Fall term. In theory this means I'll be gone from September 5th thru December 6th. Morelia is a colonial city about half way between Guadalajara and Mexico City. While there, I'll be studying at the Universidad Latina de America [UNLA] and will be taking Spanish courses as well as a class on Latin Americans & Chicanos in the United States.

Also, a few house-keeping details. I'm trying to make this as straight forward as possible so hopefully you won't have any trouble commenting on these posts or contacting me while I'm abroad. On the sidebar to the right I've posted a few links for you to check out. Some of them are blogs of my roommates who are causing chaos in Europe and others are links to more information about Morelia - I know you're dying to know! I also put up some neat quotes, because I can.

This blog will be my main form of communication with all you United States kids but I'll also have email and my one true love... snail mail!

I can't wait to share this adventure with all of you. I am so grateful for all your loving prayers and support!
